Acupuncture: It's Mode of Action

Western medical science has only recently determined that human beings are complex bioelectric/information processing systems. This understanding has been the foundation of acupuncture practice for thousands of years.

To the Chinese, this bioelectric information is called QI (pronounced chee). QI circulates throughout the body along well-defined pathways called acupuncture meridians. Points on the skin along these pathways are electrically and photo-voltaically connected to specific organs, body structures, and systems.

If this energy circulation becomes imbalanced or disrupted, optimum function is affected, resulting in pain and illness. In acupuncture, these points are manipulated to restore the bioelectric and photoconductive information processing system to balance and to mobilize the body's innate healing powers.

Acupuncture can also be of great benefit in prevention and health maintenance by finding and correcting imbalances in the energy system long before they appear in the body as disease or dysfunction.
